| Eklutna Tailrace | FAIR | Cloudy / 50F | SLOW | 7/4/2010 1:00 PM | Fishing has been hit and miss. Below average or late return. The sad thing is that many of the KIngs that are stocked here by ADF&G were taken from the enhancement program one employed at Willow Creek on the Parks Highway. There was a time when the King returns at Willow Creek had as many 9,000 Kings escape into the river just a few years ago. Since the redistribution of the Willow Creek enhancement program moved the King Salmon smolt to Eklutna it has resulted in poor fishing at Willow and poor fishing at Eklutna. This seems like a failed project. When Kings are not caught at Eklutna they stand little to no chance of successfully spawing du to a lack of habitat. When hatchery Kings at Willow Creek arent caught they can at least spawn in the creek and become part of a new generation of wild stocks. |

| Montana Creek | EXCELLENT | Cloudy / 50F | CLOSED TO FISHING - SEE REPORT | 7/4/2010 1:00 PM | The Alaska Department of Fish & Game has closed all Parks Highway streams to King Salmon fishing. Before the closure King Salmon fishing at Montana was good to excellent. Kings have been moving up into MOntana Creek for weeks and just before the closure there were hundreds of Kings holding at the mouth. Recent rains have caused the Susitna River to rise several feet which resulted in the hole at the mouth being washed out. Kings are still rolling, but not as actively as before, but this is normal when water levels rise in this location. With good lighting and with the use of polarized glasses you can see large numbers of Kings still holding at the mouth as you look into the small sliver of fresh water running along the shoreline. This is one of the best years on record for Montana Creek in the past decade in regard to the quality of King Salmon fishing throughout the entire season. |
